Wedding venues in and around Northampton

Getting married in Northampton doesn't mean a town-centre function room. Some of the best wedding venues in Northampton are a few minutes from the ring road but feel miles from it, and there's a ring of country houses, barns and hotels within half an hour of the town.

We've listed real venues in and around Northampton that are taking weddings, all checked on their own websites. Click through to each venue's page for what it's like, how the day works and a few entertainment ideas.

Wedding venues in Northampton itself

Delapré Abbey is the big name in town. It's on London Road, a Grade II* listed house set in parkland, with a Library for ceremonies, a Walled Garden with its own licence and a Wedding Cottage for the couple. It limits weddings to 25 a year, so book early.

On the southern edge of town, The Barns at Hunsbury Hill is a restored Grade II listed barn on a hillside with countryside views, licensed for civil ceremonies and close to the M1. It's a good one if you want the barn look without a long drive for guests.

A short drive out of town

Head north and you'll find Sedgebrook Hall and Brampton Grange, both at Chapel Brampton. Sedgebrook is a countryside manor hotel with gardens and rooms. Brampton Grange is an exclusive-use barn venue with three barns and a house that sleeps the couple and up to 20 guests. A bit further up the road are two country houses, Lamport Hall with its licensed rooms and walled garden, and Kelmarsh Hall, an exclusive-use house with historic gardens.

West of town, Dodmoor House near Weedon is a family-run barn venue built around a courtyard. And to the south, Whittlebury Park near Towcester has four wedding spaces on a big hotel, spa and golf estate. Towards Wellingborough, Chester House Estate has a Threshing Barn beside the River Nene.

Tips for a Northampton wedding

Think about where guests are coming from. Northampton is right by the M1, which is a big plus for family travelling from London or the north, but country lanes in the dark can be tricky for evening guests. If your venue has no rooms, pick a couple of town hotels and share them early, and sort taxis or a minibus for the end of the night.

And plan something for the drinks reception. It's the part of the day where guests who don't know each other are left standing around. We're a local Northamptonshire agency, so of course we'd suggest a wedding magician.
