Whittlebury Park

Whittlebury Park is a big hotel, spa and golf estate near Towcester, set in 700 acres of countryside a few minutes from both the M1 and M40. If you've got guests coming from London and Birmingham, it's roughly halfway, which the venue likes to point out.

It does weddings in a fairly flexible way. There are full wedding packages, and there's also a dry hire option if you want to bring more of your own ideas.

Four venues on one estate

The venue lists four spaces for weddings: the Orangery, the Pavilion, and the 1905 and Brooklands suites. Each can be set up to suit your style. Whittlebury is licensed for registry weddings, civil marriages and partnerships, so you can do the whole day on site.

Past couples on their site mention the natural light in the Atrium and holding drinks in the courtyard below, and another singled out the Orangery's dance floor and lighting. It's a hotel and leisure place first and foremost, so the estate will be busy with spa and golf guests. That's not a bad thing. It just means asking which spaces are private to your wedding and where your drinks reception will be. Their wedding team also runs showcases, so you can see the rooms dressed up before deciding.

Before and after

This is where a hotel estate really helps. Guests can stay in the hotel, book the spa the morning after, or get a round of golf in. There's even a Toptracer driving range. It turns a wedding into a weekend without anyone having to drive.

If you go down the dry hire route, check what's included and what you'd need to bring in. That's where budgets can creep.

Entertainment that suits Whittlebury

With big rooms and a lot of guests, you want something that keeps the energy up while the room is turned round between the meal and the evening. An illusion show from Jay & Joss, the illusionist double act from Britain's Got Talent, does exactly that. During the day, a wedding magician at the drinks reception is a lovely way to get people chatting.
