The venue keeps its wedding numbers low too. It says it limits weddings to 25 a year.
Rooms and gardens
Indoors, the Library is the popular choice for the ceremony. The Salon, Drawing Room and Dining Room can then be used for the wedding breakfast and the evening reception, so the whole day can stay in the house.
Outside there's a Walled Garden with its own outdoor wedding licence, and a little thatched larder used for small ceremonies. For bigger numbers, the South Lawn can take a marquee.
Staying over
There's a Wedding Cottage on site that opened in 2022 and sleeps up to six, according to the venue. Handy for getting ready in the morning and not having to go anywhere at the end of the night. Everyone else will be looking at Northampton's hotels, which are close by.
Twenty-five weddings a year isn't many, so popular summer Saturdays will go quickly. If your heart's set on the Walled Garden, ask what the indoor backup is and how they decide on the day. With an abbey this old, the painted rooms and historic interiors are part of the look, so you may find you need less décor than you'd expect. Saves a bit of money, too.
Entertainment ideas
A town-centre venue means guests arrive from all directions and at slightly different times. Somebody to break the ice helps. Our wedding magicians are good at that, wandering between the Walled Garden and the house during drinks. For the evening, why not try a fun casino in one of the side rooms for anyone who'd rather play blackjack than dance?
